Club President 2026 / 2027 – John Cadell

Dear Members, Friends, Supporters and Visitors,

It is a tremendous privilege to be elected President of Terenure College RFC, and I am deeply honoured to have the opportunity to serve our club in this role. I look forward to representing Terenure College RFC and contributing to its continued success during the coming season. When I reflect on my rugby journey, I could never have imagined that it would lead me here. Rugby has been a constant throughout my life, beginning with Nenagh Ormond RFC, where I played from Minis through to Under-20s. I then enjoyed four memorable years with University College Cork before returning to Nenagh to finish my playing career.

My connection with Terenure College RFC began in 2006 when I arrived as a Mini Rugby parent. To the best of my knowledge, I may be the first President who is neither a Terenure College graduate nor a former Club player. I see this not as a personal achievement, but as a reflection of what makes Terenure College RFC such a special place. While we are rightly proud of our traditions and our close association with the College, we are also a welcoming and inclusive club that provides opportunities for people from all backgrounds to become involved and make a meaningful contribution.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to serve the club in several roles, including Club Chairman and Chairman of the Development Committee. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of the enormous contribution made by our volunteers, committee members, coaches, supporters and sponsors. The strength of any rugby club is measured not only by results on the field, but by the dedication of those who work tirelessly behind the scenes. I would encourage anyone who can contribute, in whatever capacity, to become involved in club life.

As President, I want to build on the tremendous progress that has already been made. Our focus must remain on supporting rugby at every level, from Minis, Tigers and Youths, through Junior, Womens and Senior rugby, while also continuing to invest in our facilities and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the club. I would like to wish every coach, manager, player and captain the very best for the season ahead, and in particular Adam Tuite and Paul Barr, who will lead our First Team this year. Having shared the journey with Adam through Mini and Youth rugby, it is especially pleasing to see him take on the Club Captains role.

Most importantly, we must continue to strengthen the sense of community that lies at the heart of Terenure College RFC. I was fortunate to be involved in the original Vision 2020 project, which recognised that rugby is at its best when it brings people together and helps Terenure College RFC develop both on and off the field. That vision remains as relevant today as ever, and it should continue to guide us as we look to the future. Finally, I would like to thank my family, particularly Noelle, and all those who have supported me throughout my rugby journey and my involvement with Terenure College RFC. I am deeply grateful for the trust that has been placed in me, and I will do my utmost to serve this great club. Together, let us ensure that Terenure College RFC continues to grow, thrive and remain a place that we are all proud to call home.

Thank you.

John Cadell
