A great win for Terenure in the DP Smyth trophy , played on Saturday 14 August in Templeville road. Also credit to Marys and the Smyth family , for a very well organised junior competition , this early in the season and observing the current guidelines. Initial wins over Clontarf and Tallaght , lead to a final round robin win over Marys by 12 – 5 .
We then played Marys again in the decider , in a much tighter game. Although Terenure were the better side , it took a well timed run by Dan Marshall to finally break Marys resistance and result in a 7 – 0 victory. This was a well organised Terenure outfit and credit to Darragh Whelan , Foxy , Conor O Sullivan and Ray Church for a fine coaching job.
On the field a nice mix of seasoned campaigners , Conor McGinn , David Crowe and inevitably Les Devlin , supplemented by fine young players like JJ on the wing, Steve our South African no 8 and impressive full back Fionn Quigley. James Maher and Will Hayden were a very effective centre partnership and the team benefited hugely from the calm leadership of Conrad Barry.
In all, a fine start to the season and the first pot in the bag.
