Next up in our ‘Nuremen abroad’ series, is Kev O’Neill currently ‘down under’ playing with Waverly RFC
Name: Kev O’Neill
Currently Residing: Sydney, Australia
Current Rugby Team: Team: Waverley RFC
Former clubs in date order: Terenure College RFC
Position: Scrum-Half
Years playing in Terenure: 2009-2019
How you ended up in current club (your rugby journey):
Nure contingent out here (Andy Wallace/Bucko/Mark Fitz) played for Waverely – there’s a long connection here, going back as far as a young Michael Sharpe playing out here.
Favourite Terenure RFC team mate:
Haz (Harry Moore) – always brought a spark to the game (playing with all the 2009 batch was unreal). Ham (James O’Neill) – a great leader & a man who would never leave anything on the pitch. Kev O’Dwyer – those hits were such a joy to watch. Playing with Maz & Stevie was always great to represent the family (both the O’Neill & Flannery side of course).
Best players played with:
Dukey – unplayable on his day. Al Dunlop – made it look easy. Stevie & Harrison – can do it all.
Most annoying team mate:
Probably myself & Dukey for our yellow cards haha. Mazza loved a moan as well.
Best Terenure memories:
18-0 season, that tied in with our 29-0 win streak was incredible. But the standout day – Marys 2015 in Lakelands. Marquee in the club, Dad’s 60th, Stevie scored a hat-trick & we confirmed our home semi-final that day too… Special day!
Current Job:
Account Manager @ Pinterest
Best of luck to Stevie, Sean and all the squad next year. I look forward to getting back to Lakeland’s for a game, and hopefully one in the Aviva too!
