Peter Thursfield RIP
The multi-award winning photographer ‘had huge compassion’ and set standards in his profession
It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of Irish Times photographer Peter Thursfield yesterday.
Peter was always on hand to take team photos for us and cover some events whenever asked. He leaves behind an archive of images going back many many years that show Dublin as it grew, many of which featured on the front page of the Irish Times.
He was a true gentleman who was always there with words of advice to those who showed an interest in photography.
Peter was married to Rosie, with whom he had three daughters, Katie, Sarah and Charlotte. During a celebrated career he won numerous awards for his work, of which he kept an archive at his home in Rathmines.
Peter went about his craft quietly and diligently, organising burly rugby players into group pictures highlighting their rugby endeavours creating wonderful pictures that now adorn the walls of our clubhouse and seal moments in time.
They say that a picture tells a thousand words. If this is the case, Peter Thursfield ‘wrote’ volumes. A true master of his craft.
He will be missed by all in the club, especially those who were fortunate enought to be placed in front of his lens.
